It is 10 days to the end of the year, 2010 and I am gonna list the 10 best albums of the year 2010. This albums have been selected according to their ratings on DaWizard Chronicles which includes the artistes' originality and style, lyrics and beats, Quality in general and also on their commercial achievements and acceptance. The depth and substance of the album in general is the most important criteria for selection. All these were brought together to give these albums the edge over other albums produced this year..
10. Timaya's
De Rebirth: The album though not as commercially successful as his first and second albums
True Story and
Gift and Grace, it made the list. With songs like
Life Anagaga which means Life goes on which he featured MI and
Plantain Boy. This album still brought big ratings. The song,
Press was dedicated to the press obviously after having alot of paparazzi concerning his personal life and relationship. Track 4,
Who Born U also had a nice video and
Watta Bam Bam and Its about that time where equally nice.
DaWizard Rating ⋆⋆⋆⋆9. MoCheddah's
Franchise Celebrity: This Fujirian's music has bagged her a couple of major awards already and at only 20. A few weeks back, she won the Best Gifted Female at the Channel O Music Video Awards and she won the Best New Act at the just concluded MTV Africa Music Awards (The MAMAs). The songs
If you want me and
Ko Ma Roll produced by Legendary Beats off the album contributed to its success. There were really hot and had alot of air play. Apart from these two songs and maybe
What's your Fuji?, the other songs were not so spectacular but average. Her Fuji was on point though on the videos of both songs.
Ko Ma Roll in particular. 2010 was definitely MoCheddah's year. Formerly a star, she has now attained superstar status.
DaWizard Rating ⋆⋆⋆⋆8. Vector's
State of Surprise: This album might have surprised some of you to get on this list but the S.O.S album was a five star album all round. Some may argue about its originality due to the fact that Vector sounds a whole lot like American Rapper JayZ but he clearly addressed that in the track
Kilode.
Get Down was one of my favorites featuring 2face. SamKlef was so right on the beat for
Denge Pose. The Original and Remix versions of
Mary Jane with General Pype were equally good. His videos were poor but the album on a whole was a great effort.
DaWizard Rating ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆7. Terry Tha Rapman's
Boyz are not Smiling: BANS! This means "Boyz Are Not Smiling". The album was so huge, it even had a lingo introduced before it dropped and Terry was definitely not smiling in the videos too.. With BANS T shirts also released, Megaphunk records, Tha Rapman's record label had a wonderful year even though they were not smiling but Alaba definitely felt the Team BANS force. With tracks like
Get up, done with MoCheddah,
No Love,
Someday and the award winning
Sample Remix which he featuring Mr Sample himself Ekwe with Phero the great. The hype was there, commercially BANS delivered and the album itself was original. Its a rap album with some deep music.
DaWizard Rating ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆6. Dr SID's
Turning Point: MoHITS Dr SID had a great year.
Pop something was the hit song of the album and a hot club banger. There was hardly any club that you wouldnt hear "pop pop pop pop... pop pop.." at least once every friday for the 52 weeks of the year. This song to me was the club banger of the year. Dr SID Esiri's album also had other highly rated songs like
Over the Moon,
Ba Mi Jo featuring Ikechukwu, M.I and eLDee and
E Je Ka Jo featuring D'Banj.
Something about you was another hit track off the album. There is no doubt that this album was a success especially commercially and hence gets the number 6 spot in the countdown.
DaWizard Rating ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆5. Eldee's
Is It Your Money?: According to his name which means "My wealth is my future",
Is it your money? is an album which must be given its due respect.. The
Respect Me video off the album was directed by award winning director, Clarence Peters. I think it was a nice piece of work. Eldee is a don in the industry. The Nigerian American rapper and producer/ CEO of Trybes Record did the
Big Boy Remix with Jasiel Robinson, popularly known as Yung Joc. I bet that was not an easy feat. He teamed up with NaetoC, Jimmz Flames and Dokta Frabz for
Feel Good Music.
One day (e go better) is another great tune on this album and tells a story about the corrupt nature of administration in the country and hope for the future of Nigeria.
DaWizard Rating ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆4. Asa's
Beautiful Imperfection: Most fans believe that when compared to her successful debut album
Asha [2007],
Beautiful Imperfection is less commercially inclined but slightly better crafted and technically slicker. This album was a success all the same. Tracks like
Bamidele,
Be My Man and
Questions were just classic. It might not have been a commercial hit on the home front but this album is making waves all across Europe. It is has great acceptance in Germany, Belguim, Switzerland and even got shortlisted as the one of the albums of the year by iTunes France. Some fans even think that if she were a Westerner, this album would have landed her a Grammy nomination! Maybe time will tell.. Asa is the only female to make the list.
DaWizard Rating ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆3. Jesse Jagz's
Jag Of All Tradez: Jargo's album was a success and finds itself on the number three spot in the countdown. Producer extraordinarie, Jagz dropped hits like
L.O.V.E. U,
Intoxicated with Wizkid,
Greatest and the Choc Boys Anthem,
Nobody Test Me. The
Jargo video was a disappointment for some but he and his crew made it right in the
Nobody Test Me video. The video just like the track was hot and was an introduction for Ice Prince Zamani.
DaWizard Rating ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆2. MI's
MI2, The Movie: Despite the huge hype before the album dropped,
MI2, The Movie couldnt make it to the top of the list probably due to the fact that it was released towards the end of the year or due to the unconfirmed reports that Chocolate City, MI's record label sold the distribution rights of the album to AHBU Ventures for a mere 20 Million Naira to distribute the album throughout the whole of West Africa!..Surely, that is too small compared the amount of hype this album received and status of MI. Whatever the case,
MI2 was off the hook, from start to finish. A complete album or should I say an epic movie. Mr Incredible did not disappoint. Tracks like
Anybody,
Number 1,
Epic,
Undisputed and
One Naira keep on banging on radio stations from Jos to Las Gidi. A five mic album from MI to wrap up a wonderful and yet another successful year for Chocolate City.
DaWizard Rating ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆1. 2face's
The Unstoppable Album (International Edition): Awards don't lie.. Undoubtably the best Nigerian Artist in the industry today. 2baba's
Unstoppable album won him several major awards this year including Best Pop Video (
Implication) & Best Western at the Soundcity Awards, Most Gifted Western African at the Channel O Music Video Awards and Best Male & Artist Of The Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards. 2face showed he is still the undisputed unstoppable number one artiste in Nigeria. The album is just too original. Songs like
Only Me topped the Naija charts for weeks..
Be there, original and remix versions were really off the hook.
Implication was a major party song in 2010.
Enter the place was also a hit. I can't select which one was hotter,
Enter the place or
Implication.. both had very nice videos.. same concept though. The album had the edge because it was a complete package. Apart from these earlier mentioned club bangers, it also had emotional songs like
Emotions and
Raindrops which is a tale about his life. For an album that sold for N1000 a copy and still did well commercially, 2baba's album was undoubtably the number one album of the year 2010.
DaWizard Rating ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆There were some other nice albums that were dropped but didnt make the list. Roc-A-lot's Yung Hanz missed out on the list but his album was a hit and had the notable club banger,
Display produced by rising producer, RayX. Skuki's
B.A.N.G.E.R also brought huge ratings. Overdose's
Hustle or Die was very good. 2Shotz's
I am William was good. Ruggedman's
Untouchable had some hit songs like
Sanwo and
She n' my swagger with Ice prince. Durella's
Reconfigurated was also okay and YQ's
i am YQ was a good effort. Duncan Mighty's
Legacy was tight and got a lot of attention. Others like Ikechukwu's
Alliance Reconstructed and Lynxx's
This is Lynxx where released too close to the end of the year to get a full review.
2011 is just around the corner and there is still alot of anticipated albums from artiste like Mr Endowed, D'banj, and Bracket. We also await 9ice's
Bashorun Gaa album, I wonder what his reply would be to Ruggedman's bonus track on his
Untouchable album. Naeto C's
SuperC Season has as much hype and buzz as
MI2, the movie. Young female rapper Eva's
GIGO EP is expected next year and Tiwa Savage who dropped the hot single
Kele Kele is also expected to drop her album next year also.. The Empire Mates boys WizKid Ayo Balogun who has so much fans and Raoul Skales are also expected to drop their albums next year but arguably the most anticipated of them all would be that of Choc Boy, Ice Prince Panshak Zamani who's hot single
Oleku is already being sang in almost every club and radio station you listen to and even being remixed by Ghanaians!. 2011 promises to be even greater than 2010.. We hope to listen to even better music next year and we keep our fingers crossed in anticipation.. Season's greeting my fellow bloggers and followers.. See you next year!
